A Friendly Society is a mutual insurance organization of the working classes. It is intended to cultivate the habit of thrift, prudence and self-reliance amongst its membership. Members subscribe for provident benefits such as sickness, death, optical, maternal etc.

There are several types of societies e.g.

  • Fraternal organization

  • Working man's club

  • Retirement benefit

Presently there are one hundred and sixty (160) societies existing in Trinidad and Tobago. They own real estate valued at over $20M.
