Video Monologue Competition: Child Labour, a Child’s Worst Nightmare


The Ministry of Labour's Child Labour Video Monologue Competition being hosted in collaboration with the International Labour Organization.

Who can participate?

  • Children between the ages of 9 and 16 years old.

Competition Period

  • Monday 18th October 2021 to Monday 08th November 2021. 

How to participate?

  • Submit ONLY one (1) 60 seconds video dramatizing how you feel about child labour in Trinidad and Tobago.

How to submit your entry?

        STEP #1: Using your desktop or mobile device's browser (i.e. Google Chrome, Safari, Opera, Mozilla or Microsoft Edge), PROCEED to wetransfer.com

        STEP #2: UPLOAD your video by clicking 'Upload files'

What must be included?

The following messages must be included in your video:

  • What is child labour?
  • How do children feel about working like adults?
  • How does child labour affect children mentally and physically?
  • Why is it important for children to access their rights to an education?
  • The legal age to employ children in Trinidad and Tobago
  • What is your wish for children?

Judging Methodolgy

  • The winning videos will be selected by a distinguished panel of three (3) judges, who will be appointed to select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, in the two (2) respective age categories: 9 - 12 and 13 - 16.

  • Breakdown of Scores:
    - Knowledge and Research: What information re: child labour is featured?  -   3 points
    - Application of Key points:  How does the candidate engage in representing the ideas/concepts/arguments in monologue? - 3 points
    - Presentation of ideas: Stagecraft:- scripting, performance & production?- 2 points   
    - People's Choice: 2 points

  • The judges’ decision is final.

Prizes

  1. First Prize - A laptop
  2. Second Prize  - A tablet with a bluetooth-enabled keyboard and mouse
  3. Third Prize - Bookstore voucher valued at $1000 TTD

There will be a People’s Choice Award for both age categories. The participating video with most shares from the Ministry of Labour’s Facebook page will win the People's Choice Award. Voting commences on Monday 15th November, 2021 and concludes on Saturday 20th November 2021, which is World Children’s Day 2021

The People's Choice Prize is: 10” Amazon Tablet.


Additional Information

By entering the competition, parents and/or guardians are consenting to their child’s monologue video to be shared on the Ministry’s Facebook page for the public to vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Persons also agree that the winning videos can be aired on local television stations and social media channels and used by the Ministry of Labour for future promotions on child labour.

There will be a pre-screening of video submissions. Those that do not cover the key topics provided and or infringe upon any copyrighted material will be disqualified.

Each participant is allowed one entry only.
