Media Release: OJT e-Service Pilot Project – Working Towards Improving Access and Convenience

The Ministry of Labour (MOL) in collaboration with the National Information and Communication Technology Company Limited (iGovTT) is currently in the testing phase of an Online Registration Portal for the On-the-Job-Training Programme (OJTP). The objective of this Pilot Project is to establish an online registration portal which facilitates increased accessibility, connectivity and efficiency for applicants of the Programme, which is scheduled to be launched in 2021.
This testing phase will take place over a three (3) month period; from August to October 2020 and targets a specific participant group of applicants.
Director of the OJT Programme, Ms. Joann David explains “This target group comprises approximately 500 applicants of the OJT Programme prior to 2020, from all five (5) Regions of the country (East, West, South, Central and Tobago). These applicants were randomly selected and invited to test this online Portal.”
The new Minister of Labour, the Honourable Stephen Mc Clashie M.P. endorses this Pilot Project reiterating its timeliness, given that the global pandemic calls for greater accessibility to the Ministry’s services using online tools. Minister Mc Clashie says the OJT Division remains committed to improving service delivery and efficiency to its stakeholders.
Business Development-Team Lead at iGOVTT, Ms. Dawn Nelson says, one of the key objectives of iGovTT is to provide Government Ministries and Agencies with assistance to develop and expand their E-Services portfolio, thus iGovTT is pleased to collaborate with the Ministry of Labour on this flagship initiative.
This testing phase would enable the team at iGovTT to analyze how the OJT applications are being processed through the system, to determine what the fully operational online portal would require in order to facilitate the development of an efficient online registration portal for the OJT Programme in 2021.
The Ministry anticipates that iGovtt’s involvement in this Pilot Project would yield the desired results of enhancing the efficiency of the OJT Division and reducing operational costs.
Following the launch of this Online Registration Portal in 2021, Trinidad and Tobago nationals can look forward to:
- Applying to the Programme from the comfort and safety of their homes;
- Receiving notifications via email when applications have been submitted;
- Checking on their application status;
- Receiving notifications of their interview appointments and placement details.
ALL New Applicants to the OJT Programme are reminded that they are still required to visit the various offices to submit their completed applications at this time.
Completed applications must include the following:
- Academic Certificates (i.e. CSEC, CAPE, Associate Degree, Diploma, TVET, Bachelor's or Master's/PhD)
- National Identification Card
- Birth Certificate
- Resume
- Utility Bill (no more than 2 months old) for proof of address. If the utility bill is in another person's name, a Letter of Authorization is required.
Currently, the OJT Programme provides practical training opportunities for four thousand nine hundred and fifty-three (4,953) trainees from both private and public sector organisations.

- What is the OJT e-Service Pilot Project?

The OJT e-Service pilot project is scheduled for a three (3) month period (August - October). Upon completion an assessment and feasibility study will be conducted. Once approved full functionality would be possible in 2021. The expected outcome of the e-Service Pilot is the full introduction of an Online Trainee Registration platform in 2021. - What functions will be made available with the full introduction of OJT online registration?
- With the introduction of online registration for the OJT Programme:
- Nationals would be to apply to the Programme from the comfort and safety of their homes.
- The proposed new system will be more efficient, allowing notifications to be sent via email when applications have been submitted.
- Applicants would be able to check on the status of their application
Applicants would also be notified of their appointment for interview and subsequent placement.
- Who can use the OJT online registration when it is fully introduced?
Nationals aged 16-35 who are interested in applying for the OJT Programme and meet all the requirements of the Programme. No. Our manual database would still be used to facilitate placement for those who would have already applied. - Will my uploaded documents be secure?
Yes. The On the Job Training Division gives its commitment to ensure a high level of confidentiality and security. - Will interviews also be conducted virtually, if I apply online?
In-person Interviews will be conducted by the Placement and Marketing Officers. Applicants will be contacted to come in to an OJT Office closest to his/her residence for this interview.
