ILO 144 Tripartite Consultative Committee

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) 144 Tripartite Consultative Committee serves as an important part of the social dialogue process of Trinidad and Tobago and it represents a critical platform for tripartite dialogue.

In June 1995, Cabinet agreed to the establishment of a Tripartite Consultative Committee under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour after the ratification by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago of ILO Convention No. 144, Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards) Convention, 1976.  This Committee was charged to undertake activities prescribed by the Convention and will facilitate the Ministry’s work including:

  1. review of the responses of Trinidad and Tobago to ILO questionnaires and annual country reports on Conventions and Recommendations;
  2. preparation for meetings and conferences related to the ILO, including its annual International Labour Conference;
  3. providing input to inform national positions on labour affairs;
  4. review of the status of implementation of ratified Conventions; and
  5. review of ILO Conventions which have not been ratified by Trinidad and Tobago in order to make recommendations to the Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development in respect of ratification.

The newly appointed ILO 144 Tripartite Consultative Committee received their Instruments of Appointment from Senator the Honourable Jennifer Baptiste-Primus, Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development at the Ministry’s Head Office on Friday February 2, 2018.  The ILO continues to be a valued stakeholder and an integral partner of the Ministry.
