Ministry of Labour launches "Know your Rights" campaign to commemorate Labour Day 2022

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago - Wednesday 15 June 2022

Trinidad and Tobago will commemorate Labour Day on Sunday 19th June, 2022. To recognize this historic day, the Ministry of Labour has heightened its public education drive during the month of June with the launch of its "Know your Rights" campaign.

This Campaign aims to increase employees’ and employers’ awareness on their rights and responsibilities as outlined in the various labour laws enforced by the Ministry of Labour’s Conciliation, Advisory and Advocacy Division (CAAD) and the Labour Inspectorate Unit (LIU).

Among the top disputes and workplace issues received by the CAAD and LIU are retrenchments, dismissals, alteration of terms and conditions of workers, non-payment of salaries and overtime pay in addition to maternity matters.

The Ministry of Labour’s e-Poster and video series campaign: “Know Your Rights Nuggets” is a targeted campaign which outlines the proper workplace practices aligned to the workplace issues identified.

It is hoped that the continued sensitization by the Ministry will improve working relationships between employees and employers and reduce the number of workplace breaches.

This Campaign can be accessed on the Ministry of Labour’s social media pages on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube using the handle @labourgovtt.
