Moving from OJT to Employee with the National Employment Service

Newsletter Article Masthead 1 - June 2022

Celine De Leon exited the OJT Programme in November, 2020 after completing her two (2) year duration on the Programme. Uncertain of her next career move she visited the National Employment Service (NES), San Fernando office for assistance with her job search. She chose the NES because they possess a database of organisations seeking employees and she believed that would have been a good opportunity to gain employment in a highly competitive job market. Here is Celine’s story in her own words:

As my time on the OJT Programme was coming to an end, a friend suggested that I register with the National Employment Service, so I did. The registration process was pretty straightforward, I visited the office in San Fernando with all of my documents and was contacted within a short period of time for an interview. I was truly impressed by the customer service I received from staff. One staff member in particular, Ms. Charles, who conducted my interview, was very helpful and responded to all of my queries. I truly appreciated all of the efforts she made in trying to source a suitable job for me.

Ms. Charles kept in contact with me to find out whether I would be interested in the vacancies she found from numerous agencies. As a result of her hard work and persistence, I gained an interview with one of the employers and was hired by the Ministry of Public Administration for six (6) months to work on a project. While employed at the Ministry of Public Administration I gained new skill sets and valuable insight into the importance of databases. This job opportunity was certainly another stepping stone in my career path and I thank the NES for helping me to gain employment and excel.

Ms. De Leon has since secured permanent employment at another organisation. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours and are grateful that she has shared her story.
