Media Release - Minister of Labour appoints the Board of the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies

 

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago - Friday 21 July 2023

The new Board of Governors for the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies were presented with their Letters of Appointment by the Minister of Labour, the Honourable Stephen Mc Clashie. This Appointment ceremony was held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the CLR James Auditorium, Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operatives Studies, Churchill Roosevelt Highway, Valsayn.

The new Chairman of the Board is Professor Brian Copeland, Retired Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.

Addressing the newly appointed members, Minister of Labour, the Honourable Stephen Mc Clashie, described the Appointment ceremony as critical to the advancement of the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies and by extension the Labour and Industrial Relations landscape of Trinidad and Tobago. 

Minister Mc Clashie told the new Board of Governors that their appointment to the Board is a testament to the confidence that the Cabinet of Trinidad and Tobago has placed in their ability to harmonise their varied backgrounds and experiences into creating a unique synergy which will ensure that the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies remains a leader in providing educational facilities to trade unions, workers, co-operatives and citizens in general.  He added, “I must emphasize the crucial role this College plays in the progression of tertiary education opportunities, promotion of decent work and the establishment of sound industrial relations systems in Trinidad and Tobago and also to the wider Caribbean.”

In his remarks, Chairman, Professor Brian Copeland expressed gratitude for being provided with this opportunity to serve the College, and by extension, Trinidad and Tobago. He said “It is imperative that citizens should be provided with every possible resource, every possible opportunity to facilitate the achievement of their maximum potential and in doing so, attain, at minimum, a decent standard of living. This trajectory of cradle-to grave individual growth would clearly redound to the benefit of the Nation by way of an ever-effective, ever-evolving human resource potential.”
